Tuesday, March 19th, was the official start of Spring. You can see Spring happening everywhere. The daily temperature creeps up and the days are longer. Cool nights give way to sunny mornings. Trees awaken with tiny buds peeking out on branches. Crocuses seem to spring up overnight and the daffodils grow by inches with each passing day. The change of season and colors renew our senses and give us the feeling of hope.
The other day when it was chilly and windy, I took a walk through our greenhouse at Shelland Flower Farm (@shelland_flower_farm) to see what seedlings sprouted over the winter. I was amazed at the thousands of plants that have started. Just a month ago, everything was just a green speck in the dirt and I couldn't identify one plant from another. A few months later, there are anemones, daffodils, tulips, lilies, bleeding hearts and so much more.
Our resident farmer, Kate Russell and her team have done an outstanding job of sourcing and planting thousands of species. I can't wait to see the spectacular growing season we have in store for our customers.
Our greenhouse opens April 15th. Here's a sneak pre-view of what's popping up:
“However many years she lived, Mary always felt that 'she should never
forget that first morning when her garden began to grow'.”
Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
